Love your lungs
Thank you to all those who participated in World Spirometry Day – the day was a great success - approaching 1,000 people received the free lung test in ten centres throughout the country. We would sincerely like to thank the respiratory scientists, respiratory nurse specialists and hospital personnel who gave up their free time to make the day such a success. Research has now been published based on data gathered on the day through surveys and spirometry test results. This shows that one in seven or 15% of Irish people have an undiagnosed lung condition and that this figure doubles to almost 30% in people over 60 who have a history of smoking. more >
The Irish Lung Health Alliance is a group of Irish charities that have joined forces to promote healthy lungs with four simple messages:

Lung disease can affect anyone regardless of age, health status and walk of life |
2. |
Symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough and wheeze are not normal and should be checked with your GP |
3. |
Lung disease is treatable – the earlier you treat the better. |
4. |
Keep lungs healthy - don't smoke and stay active |
This website provides information on common lung conditions and contact details for a number of organisations that provide patient support and further information. If you have symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough or wheeze you should have them checked with your GP - an early diagnosis can make all difference.
One in five deaths in Ireland is caused by lung disease. It is the most common reason to visit a GP and the third most common reason for acute hospital admission.
